Take advantage of UHart's Counseling and Psychological Services! (CAPS)

Amanda Barreiro, Managing Editor

To wrap up the Spring semester of 2019, it’s always refreshing to look back at how the year started. It’s always important to take a break once in a while and keep track of your mental health, especially while being a college student. Mental health refers to our ‘cognitive, behavioral, and emotional wellbeing’ which can affect daily lives.

When it comes to the surroundings of bad media, some college students may not react well. Along with heavy course loads of work, the amount of pressure may be too much for an average student who is dealing with a lot.

It’s always important to surround yourself with good people, whether it’s joining a club or sport or even having a study partner at the library. Being around these types of people brings up good vibes and will usually keep your mind off of other mental distractions. Reaching out to staff faculty is not a bad idea, as most students have built relationships with them throughout their years of studying at UHart.

Meditating and exercising are great ways of relieving stress when you have some free time. Any type of activity can boost your immune system while also relaxing your body at the same time. It’s healthy for everyone to take care of themselves mentally.

Our school provides counseling and psychological services located in the Gengras Student Union room 313. The office of Counseling and Psychological Services, known as CAPS provides a range of short-term services to the University community. While these services are available to full-time undergraduate students, there is no additional cost! CAPS mission is to help students achieve their fullest potential while successfully meeting the challenges of a typical college experience. The services offer individual, group and couples counseling for the University students along with training, outreach and consultation to University faculty and staff members. To learn more about the CAPS services, stop by the office at GSU 313 or calling 860.768.4482.
