Antonio Brown just can’t catch a break
September 18, 2019
NFL Wide Receiver, the spot lighter Antonio Brown, finds himself in controversy yet again. After nine years with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he made his way to Oakland, California. Were in 2019 he was traded to the Oakland Raiders, were he was made the highest paid athletic receiver in the NFL. But after much controversy with the team only after a short time of him being there, he was released from his contract, effective immediately.
The team cited several off field incidents, which dealt with a confrontation with the general manager of the team, Mike Mayock. Brown was let go from the team just before the 2019-2020 NFL season, never playing a regular season game, but only attended pre-season training and games.
However, shortly after being released from the Oakland Raiders, he signed a new contract deal with the number one team in the league, The New England Patriots. The Patriots, who are not just number one, but have won more Super bowl games than any other team in the league history of NFL Football. The deal between the New England Patriots and Antonio Brown was a verbal agreement, worth $15 million on top of a $9 million bonus once signing the contract.
On the 9th of September, 2019, Brown was giving a second-year option by the Patriots, an option worth $20 million if he was selected for the 2020-2021 season with the Patriots.
However, on the 11th of September, things got worse for Brown as he was accused of allegations of rape, by his former trainer, Britney Taylor. Brown is being sued by Taylor, for sexually assault, along with raping her three times. Brown’s legal team of attorneys denied the allegations, despite more leaks about the case being released. Even though these allegations were public knowledge to the entire public and the league, Brown still participated in the team’s practice training, and is still set to make his debut during their week 2 game against the Miami Dolphins from Miami.
When head coach of the Patriots was asked questions about the sued by Taylor, he said, “We’ll do what we think is best for the team.” In addition to Brown being a hot topic, off the field, he is known to have made numerous appearances on television shows. From being cast on season twenty-two of Dancing With The Stars with professional partner, Sharna Burgess in 2016. In-which they made the semi-finals of the competition and beating out NFL Linebacker, Von Miller and his professional partner Witney Carson, who was also cast on the season.
In 2019 he made an appearance in season one FOX’s new singing series, The Masked Singer. In-which he didn’t make the cut for the finals, but made a great lasting impression on the media entertainment side of things.
Only time will tell if things will get better for Brown, will he make a lasting impression with the fans of the NFL, or just with the general public off the field. Either way we’ll just have to wait to see how things go down in the end zone.
