Women’s Basketball loses big to UPenn

The University of Hartford women’s basketball loses big time to rivals, the UPenn Quakers, 74-46, being the final score. With the latest loss of the season, the Hartford Hawks fall to 0-8 on the year, while the Quakers improved on their season to 5-1.

During the first half of the game, the Quakers in the opening six minutes of the tournament would go on to a 21-3 run, along with carried a 21-5 lead into the second quarter of the basketball game. Their rivals would then extend their lead to 25-5 lead, with the Hartford Hawks coming back with a 13-2 run to cut the deficit with 27-18, with just under five minutes remaining in the first half.

However, in the second half, the Hawks would not be able to catch-up as their rivals extended their lead yet again to 32 points alone in the third quarter. In the second half, the lead was extended again to 56-24, crushing the Hawks in the process. On the other hand, it wasn’t all downhill for the Hawks. Players Carmen Villalobos, Jordan McLemore, Charlotte Leurs, and Kayla Padilla were spotlighted for their performances on the court this past game. With Villalobos in particular recording a career high of 13 points and 10 rebounds which resulted in her first career double-double as a Hawk.

The women’s basketball team of UHart will be back in action on Saturday, December 7. As they host and play NJIT. Tip-off is set for 2:00pm from the Reich Family Pavilion at UHart. The game will also be broadcast on ESPN+ for those who can’t attend the game in person.
