The Hartford Men’s Lacrosse team secured their first win of this season this past weekend as they held on to win by a score of 8-7. Senior Tyler Corpora, sophomore Anthony Sericolo, and freshman Ethan Landymore all scored two goals apiece. Ryan McBeth of Binghamton scored each of his game-best three goals in the second half.

After a scorching start by the Hawks resulted in an early 4-0 lead, Hartford tacked on three more unanswered tallies to push their lead to 7-1, with 2:22 left in the first quarter. With the help of a 6-of-10 performance at the X, the Hawks were able to force six Bearcats’ turnovers and took a 7-2 lead into the second quarter.

Each team only tallied one goal apiece in the second quarter, with the Hawks extending their lead to 8-3 heading into the half. The second half was all Binghamton, as the momentum was all Bearcats. McBeth, who only provided one goal in the third quarter for the Bearcats, single-handedly trimmed down Hartford’s lead to two with a pair of goals at the 9:23 and 8:14 marks in the final quarter. He continued his scoring as he assisted on a Justin Roderka goal with 43 seconds to go in the game, pulling the Bearcats within one.

Binghamton would win the ensuing faceoff. The Bearcats would regain possession after a Roderka shot went high, Grad student Ryan Lovell had other plans. He forced a key turnover in the closing seconds to secure the win for Hartford. The Hawks improved to 1-5 on the season.

The Hawks begin a two-game homestand as they host NJIT in an America East showdown on Saturday, April 17. This will mark the first-ever meeting between the Hawks and the Highlanders and the opening faceoff is set for 11 a.m. from AL-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium.
