Popstar Kim Petras is now taking new steps into the future of her career.

On August 27th, the German-born singer dropped her first new single in more than a year, aptly called “Future Starts Now.” The single coincided with the singer’s birthday, including much fanfare with a lyric video and a streaming party. The electropop record is full of all the energy, catchiness, and bubblegum feelings fans have come to expect while still feeling fresh and poised for the future.

There is indeed much to expect from Petras in the years ahead. The singer recently signed a deal with Republic Records, and “Future Starts Now” serves as her first release with the label. Additionally, this single hints at an entire upcoming album from the star.

Petras has been very vocal about the project online, tweeting, “I kinda was inspired by how designers design fashion collections for this album. …making a song for every occasion and mood. …a lot of the time I’m much more inspired by designers or directors rather than other music. …it’s been so fun.”

Now working under Republic Records also bodes well for the star. The label is home to such major artists as Post Malone, The Weeknd, and Ariana Grande. Grande even picked Petras to be on a song on the soundtrack for the movie “Charlie’s Angels.”

Petras is not a stranger to being in the public eye either. In addition to her music career, she made headlines at a young age due to her very public transition. As a transgender star, LGBTQ+ people have flocked to support her in her endeavors. Her new deal with Republic Records is set to solidify her stardom even more.

The President of West Coast Creative at the label, Wendy Goldstein, believes this, saying, “What Kim Petras has already accomplished on her own is unprecedented. She became one of the most disruptive and dynamic global superstars with incredible songs and an amazing vision. Our goal is to augment what she’s personally built and make history now.”

Petras’ single, “Future Starts Now,” is available to stream now.
