First Anniversary of Actor Chadwick Boseman’s Death Leads to Outpouring of Tributes
September 1, 2021
August 28th, 2020 lives in history as the world lost actor Chadwick Boseman to colon cancer. His death came as a surprise to many at just 43 years old. A year has now passed, leading to numerous tributes and reflections on his prolific legacy.
In recent years, Boseman took the world by storm as a “Black Panther” star for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Many of his co-stars took time to post messages and photos of the star on social media.
Lupita Nyong’o wrote, “I did not know that I could miss both his laughter and his silence in equal measure. I do.”
Josh Gad also posted, “Not a day goes by one year later, where it doesn’t still hurt. But in the darkness, he always reminds us of the light. He was an angel on this planet and is now a Saint on high. Love you and miss you more than ever… forever.”
But the tributes did not stop at social media. Earlier in August, the annual fundraiser entitled “Stand Up to Cancer” featured a live cover of the 1938 song, “I’ll Be Seeing You,” performed by Boseman’s wife, Taylor Simone Ledward. Many of the late actor’s Marvel colleagues, such as Chris Evans and Paul Rudd, also attended the event.
Additionally, Boseman’s legacy has not ceased on screen. One of his final performances via voice acting was recently used in an episode of the new Marvel show entitled “What If…?” on Disney Plus. Marvel has also decided to continue to move forward with a sequel to the first “Black Panther,” which is being called “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
Few other details about the sequel have been confirmed, but Marvel will not recast the character of T’Challa, previously played by Boseman. The release date is also set to be July 8th, 2022, resulting from delays due to Covid-19.
After one year and into the years to come, the world will remember Chadwick Boseman in big and small ways.
