JoJo Siwa Set To Make “Dancing With The Stars” History with Same-Sex Dance Partner
September 1, 2021
There has never been a same-sex dance partnership in all 29 seasons and 428 episodes of “Dancing With The Stars,” but that is about to change. It has been announced that JoJo Siwa will be the first competitor in the show’s history to dance with a same-sex partner. Siwa recently came out as pansexual and is a proud voice for the LGBTQ+ community. She brought up to ABC producers how same-sex dancing is an underrated art form; “Dancing With The Stars” producers saw this as an opportunity to recognize and show their support towards the LGBTQ+ community.
JoJo Siwa is extremely influential to young LGBTQ+ people. She came out as pansexual on TikTok on January 20th and publicly introduced her girlfriend, Kylie Prew. Siwa’s social media content draws a younger female audience, resulting in her selling $100 million in merchandise from glitter bows to scooters (anything can be JoJo Siwa themed). Some parents are upset that Siwa is exposing their children to the idea of same-sex relationships. However, others are excited that it influences the next generation of society to recognize people of different sexual orientations and genders.
If you did not already know, Siwa’s stardom began on “Dance Moms” in 2014. She competed in national dance competitions on the show, televised by Lifetime Network. Already a professional dancer, some people are saying Siwa is overqualified for the show. Ironically, she is only 18 years old! Viewers are dying to know who Siwa’s “Dancing With The Stars” partner will be, but they will have to wait until September 20th when Season 30 officially premiers on ABC network.
