The Men’s Baseball team looks to build on their first win. The Hawks defeated the NJIT Highlanders in the final matchup of their three-game series. After six innings of play, the Hawks trailed 5-3, but a late surge powered the team to victory.
Sophomore infielder Derek Tenney tied the game with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning. The team would grab the lead in the eighth inning after their opponents’ pinch-run and unforced error. Alec Couture sealed the win after pitching three scoreless innings, including a strikeout. This season, the Hawks are now 1-11 and 1-2 in conference play.
Next up for the team is a non-conference matchup against Marist College on Wednesday, March 23. After that, they have a three-game in conference series against UMBC.
The first game of the series is Friday, March 25, with the first pitch scheduled for 3 pm. Marist College is currently 9-6 this season, coming off a three-game sweep against Fordham. The Hawks will look to improve their overall record against Marist as they have lost three out of ten matchups.
The Red Foxes are led by the catcher, Gene Napolitano, and infielder, Gavin Noriega, who leads the team in hits combining for 41, with 24 RBIs.
The Hawks won the most recent matchup versus Marist at home. That game saw 11 total runs on 18 hits combined, scoring Hartford five runs in the fifth inning in route to victory.
