Campus Parking Headache: A Saga

Maddie Gill, Managing Editor

In addition to the plethora of problems with the parking situation on campus, the new portal for inviting guests makes things even worse – if that’s even possible! One would think that this new platform would make life so much easier and convenient, rather than walking down to the Public Safety office. Of course this isn’t the case, nothing is easy here. In the span of two weeks, the guests that I have invited to stay overnight have received not one, but four parking violation tickets.

Despite entering all of the correct information online, paying the overnight parking fee, and leaving the car in the correct type of spot in C Lot, there is still an issue. Regardless of appealing these violations and succeeding in having the balance waived on my account, I was still scolded for “overlooking important details” regarding entering the information for a guest.
Respectfully, I disagree entirely. Clearly, there is an issue with the new parking portal. So, from now on, I would rather play it safe and meet face to face with an officer down at Public Safety to ensure guests’ license plates are in the system.
However, how many more students are going to get tickets for no reason, before someone at the University realizes there is a significant issue?
