Dylan Garand Turns Away Career High 38-Save As Wolf Pack Fall to Bears.
November 30, 2022
On Saturday, Hartford Wolf Pack’s young goalkeeper Dylan Garand showed off his talents as he turned away all 38 shots thrown in his direction. The Wolf Pack and Hershey Bears were completing their Thanksgiving Weekend Showdown in Hartford after Hershey won the first game on Friday by a score of 2-1.
Saturday was different, as Dylan Garand stole the show and kept Hartford in the game. The first period was quiet, mainly as the Bears held a 7-6 shot advantage heading into the middle frame. The best chance of the game for either team came in the second period as Bear’s defenseman Jake Massie bolted into the offensive zone and fired a shot on goal. Massie attempted to sneak the puck through the pads of the young goalkeeper; however, Garand stood tall. The third period was back and forth, but neither team could find the back of the net, forcing overtime.
Three-on-three overtime provided chances for both teams as each team fired off three shots on goal. After 65 minutes of scoreless hockey, the game would be decided in the shootout. The Wolf Pack Captain Jonny Brodzinski was the first shooter and scored; however, Connor McMichael of the Bears would counter with a goal of his own to make it 1-1 after the first round. In the second round, Hartford sent up Bobby Trivigno, and Hershey would counter with Sam Anas, and both were denied, as the teams entered the third and final round. Hartford’s Will Cuylle attempted to give the Wolf Pack the lead but failed, which opened the door for Mike Sgarbossa of the Bears, and he capitalized, which gave the Hershey the victory and swept the Thanksgiving Weekend Showdown.
The Hartford Wolf Pack return to the ice this Saturday as they host the Rockford IceHogs in the first-ever meeting between the two teams. For all Hartford Wolf Pack news, follow the Wolf Pack on all social media accounts and check Hartfordwolfpack.com.
