Cake vs. Pie
March 1, 2023
A few days ago, I was enjoying a break from classes by watching YouTuber Markiplier play The Forest with fellow YouTubers Bob and Wade. In one video, they began to debate whether cake is better than pie. Now, this debate has stuck with me much longer than it should have. I think about it in class, while doing assignments, even when I first wake up in the morning. So now, let’s discuss, is cake better than pie?
A simple answer, yes, cake is better than pie. Taking a look at the flavor category, cake has a much longer list of flavors than pie. There’s chocolate, vanilla, red velvet, funfetti cake, carrot cake, and cheesecake just to name a few. Don’t get me wrong, there are multiple pie flavors such as apple, pumpkin, blueberry, pecan, and pudding pie, but the richness of cake beats out a pie. Although if you put a pumpkin pie and a chocolate cake in front of me, I won’t know which to choose.
When it comes to flavors, I find I enjoy more cake flavors than pie flavors. There are only two pies I like, apple (only on occasion) and pumpkin, but there must be at least a dozen cake flavors that I like. When it comes to texture, I still prefer a cake. Even though I like apple pie, there are times that I don’t eat it because I do not like the texture of the fruit or the crust, especially the top crust. With cake, especially a good cake, everything is smooth and moist.
If I had to choose between a bad cake and a bad pie, I think I would cry. When there’s a bad pie, it is very hard to recover. The flavor could be bland, the crust could be raw or soggy, and the filling could be done wrong. When there’s a bad cake, it could be dry, too wet, caved in, have crusty edges, and dense. The only thing that could possibly save a bad cake is the frosting, but even that could go wrong. Still, if I were to pick one, I would have to go with a bad cake.
