The University of Hartford’s Baseball team opened their season over the weekend with a three-game set in Virginia against Radford University. In a close game one, Hartford was defeated by a score of 4-2. Catcher Tyler Holmes went 2-3 with a solo home run. Alec Couture pitched five innings allowing four runs and striking out four.

Game two wasn’t as competitive as Hartford went down 13-2. Devin Kellog and Noah Rivera each picked up two hits to lead the offense as they scored two in the opening frame and got shut out the rest of the way. Luke Rier pitched three innings in relief allowing only one hit and striking out one to limit the damage.

In the third and final game, Hartford, unfortunately, came up short again, losing 7-5. Noah Rivera continued to lead the offense, picking up two more hits while JJ Romatzick and Martin Chavarria each collected RBIs. Freshman Cameron Boardman recorded his first career hit in this game off a pinch-hit single. Edwin Almanzar Jr. spent six innings on the mound, allowing five runs with two strikeouts.

The Hawks travel down to Washington DC this weekend for a three-game set against Georgetown as they search for their first win of the new season.
