WWUH Radio: “Swing and Other Things” with Bob Lazar

Lillian Wonderly, Entertainment Editor

Tune in to WWUH’s newest program, Swing and Other Things, hosted by Bob Lazar. Featuring the music of the swing era, this radio show is dedicated to the appreciation of the big bands of the 1930s and 40s (and earlier) and some of the local personalities behind them.

This new program started airing on WWUH this April, inspired by the radio shows that would have been heard during the Great Depression and war years. In some ways, it is an homage to the big band shows that would air at Traveler’s Tower, once the home of WTIC in downtown Hartford.

It is hoped that some older recorded broadcasts may be aired during the time slot so that they can be appreciated once again and, perhaps for some, heard again. This includes broadcasts featuring “The Merry Madcaps,” WTIC’s former dance band, and one of their various studio orchestras and guest musicians.

A special thanks to station manager John Ramsey and longtime host Jim Danser for their support in getting this show on the air. You can tune in on Saturdays at 7 p.m. on 91.3 FM for a unique lineup of Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, and everything in between. Listeners can also stream online at their website, wwuh.org.
