On Wednesday, October 4th, the University of Hartford’s Women’s Volleyball team traveled up to Springfield Massachusetts to take on Western New England University in a Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup.
The Hawks lost the opening set 25-17 and the second set 25-22 to go behind right away. The Hawks saved the match by winning the third set by a score of 25-23 when the team was fast down two sets to none and in danger of being swept. The Hawks maintained their momentum in the fourth set, taking it 25-21 to tie the game at two sets each. The Hawks pulled off the surprise, winning the fifth and final set by a score of 17-15 and the match by a score of 3-2 after trailing 2-0.
The team never gave up and pulled off an incredible comeback to earn their first victory since their first game on September 2nd. Zahara Quraishi, who contributed 23 of the team’s 46 kills, was named MVP. Liahnna Orange had 23 assists while Jenna Murphy had five blocks. With two upcoming games this week, the squad hopes to begin a winning run as their record now stands at 2-5. The first being on October 12th against Gordon College and then on October 14th vs. the University of New England.
