The Hartford Hawks women’s volleyball team defeated Gordon College in the Chase Family Arena, winning 3 sets to 1 for their third victory of the year and second straight. Hartford took the opening two sets, winning them both. In retaliation, Gordon won set three to advance the match. During set four, the Hawks were successful in getting back on track. The Hawks scored 6 straight points to turn a 2-point deficit into a 4-point lead while Hartford senior Kionah Thomas was serving. They maintained the lead and didn’t look back, giving Hartford the victory.
In the Hawks’ victory, sophomore Isabella Labrada and rookie Zahara Quraishi each had career nights. While Quraishi tied her career high with 23 kills and a career-best.370 hitting %, Labrada recorded a career-high 18 kills on 39 attempts. In the post-game press conference, Quraishi said, “There were so many pieces that fell into place. I think we all really fought for this win and it was a great one.” Of Hartford’s 49 kills, Labrada and Quraishi had 41 of them. After the game, Labrada commented, “I think it was very necessary for our team to get us back our confidence.”
Looking for their third straight match win on October 14th vs the University of New England, the Hawks were swept 3-0, bringing their record to 3-6. The team has two more matches this week, both on the road. First against Nichols College on October 18th and at Amherst College on October 21st.
