The University of Hartford Women’s Basketball team opened the season on Sunday, playing Williams College at home and losing 78-67. Hartford jumped out to an early lead through the first quarter of this high-scoring game. In the second, Williams College turned the game around, scoring 28 points to Hartford’s 8 points, and taking command of the contest. Hartford, behind 40–22 at the half, showed no signs of weakness as they defeated Williams 14–11 in the third quarter to take a 51–33 lead. The Hawks put on a show in the fourth and final quarter, scoring 31 points. Sadly, Williams College responded with 27 points of their own and maintained the advantage to win.
Adrianna McCoy of Hartford scored 31 points in her collegiate debut, setting a freshman program record. She made 10 of her 19 field goals and sank six three-pointers. With twelve, Madison Baird was the only other Hawk to score in double figures. Sidnee Bowden and Kendall Rieman took over the paint, grabbing seven and eight rebounds respectively. In defense, the squad also had eight steals. This week, the club plays two games in an attempt to secure their first victory of the year. The first is against Vermont State University Johnson at home on Wednesday, November 15th, and Baruch College away on Sunday, November 18th.
