This past Sunday, the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Detroit Lions in the NFC Championship game by a score of 34-31 to send them to the Super Bowl.
The Lions came to play, scoring the first points of the game with 14 points in the first quarter. San Francisco didn’t get on the scoreboard until the second quarter, but Detroit scored ten more points to lead 24-7 at the half. The 49ers put up 17 points in the third quarter and 10 more in the fourth, pulling off an incredible comeback with the season on the line. The Lions fell just short of winning the team’s first-ever Super Bowl after only managing 7 points in the second half.
Jared Goff completed 25 of 41 pass attempts for the Lions for 273 yards and a touchdown. Jameson Williams scored a touchdown on both a rush and a reception, while David Montgomery ran for 93 yards and a touchdown. Brock Purdy completed 20 of 31 passes for 267 yards, one touchdown, and one interception for the 49ers. In contrast, Deebo Samuels had eight receptions for 89 yards and two touchdowns while Christian McCaffrey ran for 90 yards.
The 49ers will face the Kansas City Chiefs as San Francisco will look for revenge in a rematch of Super Bowl 54 in Las Vegas on Sunday, February 11th.
