On January 31, the University of Hartford honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with their yearly MLK observance in Lincoln Theatre. “Love: Hate is Too Great a Burden to Bear” was this year’s theme. Maliqua Mosley-Williams, a fourth-year student in the Barney accelerated 3+1 program, and Kiara Opoku, an undergraduate finance major who will graduate in May, co-hosted the event and the program’s featured speaker was Richard A. Robinson, the first African American Chief Justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court. This is a picture of him delivering it that is attached. This offered the guests an opportunity to consider the life and work of Dr. King and draw inspiration from his teachings. Visitors can also draw inspiration from people who have won Beloved Community Awards—including the 2024 MLK Beloved Community Award—and physically lived their spirit. At the occasion, the recipients of the award—which included a staff person, faculty member, student, and alumni—were announced.
This program has been continuing for 19 years now, offering a range of performances to encourage and inspire the audience. Please consider attending next year’s annual MLK observance!
