The University of Hartford’s men’s basketball team concluded their season this past week, losing their final two contests and finishing the first season under new head coach Aaron Toomey with a record of 7-18.
On Wednesday, February 14th, the Hawks were defeated by Western New England University by a score of 59-49. Western New England took a demanding 36-23 lead in the first half and didn’t look back from there. Trayon Rumley scored 18 points to lead the team in scoring, while Stephen Akwiwu was the only other Hawk to put up double-digit points with 12. The team also had 13 steals on defense.
In the team’s final game on Saturday, February 17th, in front of the home crowd, the men’s team was defeated by the University of New England, 89-80. Trayon Rumley once again led the team in scoring with 15 points, as the Hawks had five players with ten or more points. Kaosi Chijioke had a double-double, scoring 14 and securing 10 rebounds.
The men’s basketball team will now look ahead to the next recruiting season and hope to build upon the positive moments that this season had to offer, with a very young team that, bearing any transfers, could look the same next year.
