This past Saturday, the University of Hartford’s softball team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology in both games of a doubleheader.
In game one, the Hawks won by a score of 7-1. Wentworth scored the first run of the game but when two runs scored on a Mara Sczecienski single, Hartford didn’t look back, scoring five more the rest of the game and seven unanswered all together to get the win. The Hawks had thirteen hits, led by shortstop Gia Miccio, who had three hits and an RBI. Carly Mayhood went the distance on the mound, allowing only two hits, one run, and striking out four as her record for the season went to 4-1.
In a closer game two, Hartford was down 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth when an error committed by Wentworth shortstop Abigail Delia allowed two runs to score and the Hawks to take the lead. Adelie Beebe added an RBI double to make the score 5-3 as Alexis Sealey, who went three innings in relief, shut the door in the 7th to lock down the win.
With the wins and Hartford softball bumps, they’re record is up to 9-5-1 on the season. They play five more games this week, with doubleheaders against both Roger Williams and Western New England.
