This past week, the University of Hartford Softball team won five out of the six games they played, putting the team’s record currently at 13-6-1.
On April 2nd, they defeated the University of Saint Joseph with ease by a score of 9-0. The dominance continued in the next two games in a doubleheader against Roger Williams University. The Hawks won games one 10-2 and game two 12-3. The one loss came in the first game of the next double header against Western New England University, where they lost 8-3.
In the second game of the doubleheader vs. Western New England, the Hawks won by a score of 10-4 in a ten-inning dogfight. Down 1-0 in the top of the 7th, Hartford was able to tie the game. Once in extra innings, both teams scored a run in the 8th and 9th innings to keep things going. In the top of the 10th, Hartford put up a seven-seat spot, capped off by Gia Miccio’s three-run home run, putting the game out of reach. Miccio, Alexis Sealey, Mara Sczecienski, Adelie Beebe, and Anita Farkash all had two hits apiece, as they had 12 in total. Sealey was excellent on the mound, going six innings, allowing only one run, and striking out 3. Gracie Hopkins got the win in relief.
The softball team looks to stay hot this week, as they have three more doubleheaders. The first is on April 11th vs. American International College; the second is on April 13th vs. Endicott College, and the third and final of the week is on April 14th vs. the University of New England.
