The University of Hartford baseball team swept their most recent double header this past weekend against Gordon College.
Game one was won by a score of 13-3. A five-run 2nd inning put the Hawks up big and had them set for the rest of the game. Jeremy Mangiameli, Jake Santiago, Ryan Melendez, and Josh Kaplan all had three hits apiece, while Mangiameli and Santiago both had four RBIs. Santiago was a single shy of the cycle. Colin Blake went the distance for the Hawks, throwing seven innings, allowing seven hits, two earned runs, and striking out three to get his first win of the season.
Game two also ended up being a blowout, as Hartford won by a score of 12-2. Jake Santiago led the charge again in game two, getting three more hits, including his second home run of the double-header. He also picked up four more RBIs. Jackson Ciccone, James Hinspeter, Tyler Shannon, and Ryan Melendez all had two hits each. Luke Rier threw five shutout innings, allowing only three hits while striking out seven to get his second win of the season.
The baseball team’s record now sits at 6-16-1 as they play six more games this coming week, looking to keep the winning streak going.
