As we slowly approach our careers as students, we become required to step out of our comfort zone and perform tasks that seem to be difficult. When we perform those tasks, we concentrate very much on things that matter most. For instance, our performance during the interview and the way employees view us. We want to make sure that everything we do is correct and that it will ultimately achieve what we set out to achieve since the beginning.
With how concentrated we are towards our goal, we lose our focus on those little, small achievements that we have made while working towards the goal. We change ourselves for the better; we improve ourselves by speaking louder than before, even if we are considered an introvert. It is essential to focus on such achievements that we have made, as it not only acts as a trophy to be placed but a form of motivation. When we look back at our challenges and how we overcame them, we are motivated by them. Think about this: I have overcome this much; what more could I lose to?
Some of the great ways that we could practice realizing the importance of our minor achievements could be gratitude journaling. Taking the effort to maintain a journal on some of the efforts, achievements, and moments of growth provides us with a positive perception of what we have done, making us more appreciative of what we have contributed to our community. Apart from that, we could also practice mindful pausing. Instead of moving from one task to another, why not take the opportunity to take a few deep breaths and enjoy the scenery around you? Such practice reminds us how fortunate we are to be alive and to be given the opportunity to become a better individual each day. At the same time, we could also take this time to ask how we truly feel, letting ourselves feel more aligned with our emotions and feelings.
In life, it is often necessary for a lot of us to keep moving forward, to have ourselves not to overthink and perform the most necessary action to achieve the best results that we seek. However, such a mentality sometimes could discredit how greatly we have done or how we have accomplished something. We should appreciate how far we have come.
