Last Friday, Taste of New Haven hosted the world’s largest pizza party in the hopes of breaking the Guinness World Record for, well, the world’s largest pizza party! Before we were allowed to go explore the event, we stood in a fenced off area, dubbed the “pizza pen,” for 15 minutes and ate 2 slices of pizza and drank some water; this was official Guinness procedure, and we wouldn’t have counted as attendees if we didn’t follow suit. Everything was very orderly and professional, adhering to Guinness World Record standards to a T and ensuring that, should they break the record, everything was done correctly.
After that, we were allowed to roam free and eat as much pizza as our hearts desired. The New Haven green was packed with people and the surrounding streets lined with various food trucks selling mostly pizza and some other things here and there. There was so much food to eat that it was almost overwhelming, but the smells were nice and the sounds, too, and everyone seemed to be having a great time. All in all, it was a pleasant experience, full of good food and friends.
The pizza dinner even included a show. And for free! Alongside the party, the New Haven Grand Prix was taking place all around the green. Racers whizzed by on their bikes as onlookers cheered while stuffing their faces with cheesy, gooey slices. It was quite a sight to behold, no matter where you looked. My senses were certainly stimulated, but it couldn’t have been more welcome. Participating in something so big, collaborative, and beyond myself was such a fun experience and one I’d gladly choose to do again.
