NBA great, Steve Nash, has been hired as the new Head Coach of the Brooklyn Nets.  Is he going to fit well with this championship-contending team in his first head coaching role in the NBA?

This year, in a short season, the Nets made the playoffs as the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference going 35-37.  Last offseason the Nets were able to bring in two superstars in Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving to go along with their young rising core of Caris Levert, Spencer Dinwiddie, and Jaret Allen.  It goes without saying that this is a very talented team that is an automatic contender when healthy.  Unfortunately, Kyrie Irving has struggled with injuries this entire past season and Kevin Durant still has yet to play a single game for the Nets.  With that being said they are both expected to be at 100% health for next season to compete for a championship.

The Nets have now moved on from previous Head Coach Kenny Atkinson and hired Steve Nash as his replacement.  Steve Nash is an NBA legend and Hall of Famer with an incredible basketball resume.  During his 18 seasons in the NBA, he was a 2-time MVP, an 8-time all-star.  He also led the league in assists 6 times and has 7 All-NBA selections.

As great of a player, as he was, Nash has no formal coaching experience.  However, he has always been known as a great basketball mind and student of the game.  That being said, the biggest objective for Steve Nash as head coach will be to get the two superstars to play well together and with the rest of the roster.  Durant and Irving both have very impressive resumes at this point in their careers.  Durant is already a two-time Finals MVP after joining the Warriors dynasty in Golden State while Irving is also already an NBA champion winning a championship with LeBron James in Cleveland.  Both players are known for their otherworldly scoring abilities, however, in their championship runs they both had great playmakers in LeBron James and Stephen Curry.  Now they have one of the greatest playmakers of all-time as their head coach.  He should have a field day writing up plays for Durant and Irving.

It will certainly be exciting to see what Nash can come up with to get these two great scorers the ball.  Steve Nash looks like a great hire and we can only wait to see this team in action next year.
