In the fall of 2016, the football world was celebrating the return of football to Los Angeles, one of the largest cities in the nation, with the Rams coming home after a 20-year stint in St. Louis. Well, not the entire football world, fans of the Rams in St. Louis were understandably upset with the move, and local politicians were preparing to take action seeking restitution after having the team ripped away from them. It is no secret that cities value professional sports teams not just for prestige and pride but also for the immense financial boost they provide for communities where they reside. Following owner Stan Kroenke’s decision to move the team, the city of St. Louis has brought legal action against the team for alleged breach of contract and associated damages pertaining to their hasty exit from Missouri. Current reports have indicated the potential for a billion-dollar settlement to end the litigation and put a close to the St. Louis chapter for the team. This potential settlement will have enormous implications for another team looking to get a new stadium and potentially relocate the Buffalo Bills. Moreover, if there is one thing for sure, no lawyer on the planet is prepared for bills mafia dressed in a suit giving the people’s elbow to a folding table in the courtroom.
