Should the Guest Policy be Re-evaluated?

Should the Guest Policy be Re-evaluated?

Maddie Gill, Managing Editor

With the pandemic came a lot of new requirements and precautionary measures, particularly on college campuses. I definitely think UHart has done everything they can to try and make our experience here as “normal” as possible despite the circumstances.

However, the guest policy doesn’t totally make sense to me. Of course, limiting who comes in and out of campus is necessary to prevent the spread of the virus amongst students and staff. But, without sounding insensitive, we can come and go as we please and easily bring back the germs to campus when we meet with friends and family. I propose that the guest policy on campus be re-evaluated to at least allow us to gather with outsiders in the residence halls, Commons, and other other campus eateries if they provide proof of vaccination just like the guest speakers and sports game spectators have to.

Or, some sort of sign in system for contact tracing could be put in place. Without sounding completely critical, the school has at least attempted to readjust the rules as the school year has progressed and cases are monitored. If there are more people that agree, there should definitely be a petition made to hopefully get some attention.
