Laundry Room Etiquette

Laundry+Room+Etiquette

Without sounding overly cynical, the laundry room in almost every residence hall is total chaos. Thankfully, I do see someone from facilities cleaning the rooms often.

However, leave it to the students here to leave lint balls and used dryer sheets all over the floor every single day. There is in fact a large trashcan located in every laundry room, so I’m not sure how you could miss it.

Also, I’m genuinely curious – how hard is it to set an alarm on your phone when you start a load of laundry in the washing machine or dryer? For the past three years that I have lived on campus there is consistently people who leave their clothes in the machines for far too long, preventing others from being able to do their laundry too.

Now, I’m not afraid to pull people’s clothes out of the machine if they’re left abandoned. In my defense, if your clothes in the washing machine are bone dry, I have the right to take them out. Sometimes, once the clothes are put on the folding table, they sit there for weeks!

No one is concerned about where their clothes are? It’s honestly about just being considerate of your peers. Therefore, setting an alarm to notify you when your laundry is done is a simple and effective way to protect your belongings and not give other people a headache.
