On March 17th, the 2022 NCAA March Madness Tournament officially began and has already lived up to its standards. Covid-19 concerns halted the traditional style of the tournament last season, as all games were held in Indianapolis, Indiana. This season, the tournament returned to its typical style. The original tournament-style has the four regions meeting in one host city for the Final Four and National Championship. The Baylor University Bears are currently the defending national champions, as they look to repeat this year. Again, they were selected to be the number one seed out of the East region. The other three number one seeds are Arizona of the South region, Kansas out of the Midwest region, and Gonzaga, the number one overall seed of the entire tournament.
The beauty of this tournament is that it’s so unpredictable and the improbable upsets that occur. The St. Peter’s Peacocks, the number fifteen seed in the East, has been the Cinderella Story of this season’s tournament. Their first test was going up against the Kentucky Wildcats, the number two seed in the East, and it was a game for the ages. The Peacocks and Wildcats left everything they had on the court. However, when the final horn sounded, St. Peter’s had the lead and stunned the nation. However, the Peacocks weren’t done just yet as they then took down the number seven seed Murray St. by a final score of 70-60.
The 2022 March Madness Tournament has reached the Sweet sixteen and is set to start on March 25th and last until the 26th. The feature matchups include Gonzaga against Arkansas for the West Region, St. Peter’s against Purdue out of the East, Villanova against Michigan in the South, and Kansas against Providence in the Midwest.
