Bring In More Sports for the Girls!

Maddie Gill, Managing Editor

In high school, field hockey was a popular fall sport for the girls. I didn’t realize such a sport existed until I moved to the suburbs. Nevertheless, it became my whole life. I played the regular season, indoors in the winter, and sweating profusely from the hot sun in the summer.

I had every intention of continuing to play once I got to college, but sadly, UHart doesn’t offer it. After forcing myself to finally sell my equipment and coming to terms with the fact that I would never play again, I realized that I am not the only one who wishes the University had a club field hockey team. As First-years, everyone is thrust into an awkward Facebook page to meet one another. For some reason, we’re also stuck in there for life. So thanks to the plethora of notifications I receive through there, I discovered a couple others who were seeking members to create a team.

To my dismay, I was only one of two people who responded – so it never came to fruition. However, I think offering a field hockey team would be very beneficial to the University. Many other colleges have a team, and personally, I don’t care what division we are if it means I get to play again. We have the perfect field for it, and it takes minimal investment to get all the equipment. Although it’s too late for me to play here, I would love to gain some traction for future classes to have the opportunity.
