This past Saturday the Hartford men’s and women’s cross-country teams returned to action at the Ted Owen Invitational in New Britain, Connecticut. Setting the pace for the Hawks was sophomore Riley Brutvan and junior Abby O’Connor for the third meet in a row. The men finished tied for seventh overall, and the women finished eighth. Taking first place overall for the men was Central Connecticut and taking home first for the women was Rhode Island.

For the men’s team, Riley Brutvan was the first to cross the finish line for the Hawks finishing 12th overall with a time of 26:26. The next Hawk to cross the line was senior Matthew Konopinski finishing in 32nd with a time of 27:25. Rounding out the top-three finishers for Hartford was senior Keith May. May finished in 52nd with a final time of 28:08 in the 8k race.

For the women’s team, Abby O’Connor set the pace for the Hawks in the 5k race finishing in 12th with a time of 18:47. Next to cross the finish line for Hartford was senior Hailey Marcello with a time of 19:15 to finish in 23rd. Rounding out the top three for the Hawks was graduate student Haleemot Adeyanju. Adeyanju made her season debut and finished 45th overall with a time of 19:50.

Both teams return to action on October 14 in Kernersville, North Carolina for the VertCross Invitational hosted by High Point.
