Television and film production are often associated with the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, but as a resident of New England, I can assure you that Los Angeles isn’t the only place to realize your dreams of stardom. Here’s the scoop, ladies and gentlemen, instead of being chewed up and spit out by LA. You can take a trip to Western Connecticut, Boston, or New York; you may be surprised to know that these East Coast locations are also bustling hubs of the entertainment industry. While Hollywood may be the ultimate destination for many aspiring filmmakers, I have come to realize that there is no need to rush there when there are ample opportunities to connect and work in the industry right in my own backyard.

One of the advantages of the East Coast is that it offers a more cost-effective option for productions compared to the high expenses associated with filming in Hollywood. This has led to an increase in big productions coming to the East Coast throughout the year, creating a surge in job opportunities for those interested in pursuing a career in the entertainment industry. As an aspiring filmmaker, I have gained valuable professional experience in the Boston area, where there are often multiple projects being filmed simultaneously, especially during the summer months.

Surprisingly, social media platforms like Facebook have become valuable tools for networking and job opportunities in the East Coast entertainment industry. Private pages dedicated to filmmakers have become a treasure trove of job postings, casting calls, and crew calls for productions of all sizes. I have personally found numerous opportunities and even hired an exceptional crew for my own short film through these online communities.

Of course, Hollywood may still be the ultimate dream destination for many in the entertainment industry, but I have come to appreciate the wealth of opportunities available on the East Coast. Building connections and gaining experience in Western Connecticut, Boston, or New York can be stepping stones toward a successful career in the industry. The entertainment industry is not limited to Hollywood, and with the right mindset and resources, aspiring filmmakers can thrive in other vibrant locations as well.
