The University of Hartford Philosophy Club is meeting this Wednesday, October 25th, in Auerbach 320 (or you can join online as well) from 1PM-2PM to participate in a discussion led by skinhead Shannon Foley Martinez to reform other skinheads and advocate for ways to reduce the likelihood that someone will ever go in that direction in the first place. She comes to us to share her story and relay an important message.
Martinez is a former neo-Nazi who has now dedicated her life to deradicalizing people who are still in that movement. She has done a lot of impressive services with many different organizations and communities.
Martinez has made significant contributions to at-risk neighborhoods by providing people with skills training so they can become more resilient. She has also worked for nonprofits, community groups, and educational institutions. Martinez has also taken part in programs sponsored by the National Counterterrorism Center, Hedyah, the Center for the Prevention of Radicalization Leading to Violence, UN Women, and the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine.
