Episode 6 of Plate Debate took place on International Food Day! The Commons was adorned with flags from all the different countries, and the menu consisted of many different international dishes. Notably among those were the empanadas, the pork banh mi, the bibimbap, and the jerk chicken. I decided to try the beef empanadas and the jerk chicken with fried plantains. Both dishes were exceptional. I have had the jerk chicken before and honestly was unimpressed. This time around, I saw a massive improvement and had high praise to give, especially to the plantains. They were soft, sweet, and seasoned well. I rated the Jamaican meal a 7/10. The star of the meal, however, was the beef empanada. The buttery, fried outer shell mixed with the juicy beef made for the perfect bite. It was very onion-heavy, but as a fan of onions, I was pleasantly surprised. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. I gave the empanada an 8/10. The reviews from other students echoed my opinions, again highlighting the empanada as a fan favorite. Overall, International Food Day delivered one of the biggest smacks of the year!
