Are you interested in learning more about the history of gender entailed in creating the
American Yiddish Press? Well, you are in luck!
On Tuesday, November 28th from 12:45 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. University of Hartford professor
Steven Rosenthal, followed by professors Amy Weiss and Rachel Walker, will hold a conversation on the rich history of the American Yiddish press and the significance women hold in developing the prominence newspapers hold in daily Jewish life.
As stated in a UNOTES article composed by Susan Gottlieb, the lecture will break down the
novel “A Revolution in Type: Gender and the Making of the American Yiddish Press,”
Which “ explores the discovery of previously unknown work by female writers in the Yiddish
Press, whose contributions most often appeared without attribution; it also examines the work of men who wrote under women’s names in order to break into the press.”
Righting the wrongs and injustices many women faced in the making of the newspaper.
This event will be held in the Greenberg Center; all are welcome to join! For more information on this event, please contact Susan at her email address, [email protected].
We hope to see you there!
