Over more than a month from March 3rd to April 12th, 2025, six spectacular alumni will showcase their exhilarating dream murals at the University of Hartford’s Silpe Gallery.
This exhibition creates an opportunity to display the creative talents and skills of these alumni: Peter Albano, Lindaluz Carrillo, Vaughn Fender, Sophie Groenstein, Chris Piascik, and Sophy Tuttle. Additionally, each artist would be paired with a current student mentee to master artwork scaling to the size of a wall.
Ranging from social justice to autobiography, such topics would be spray painted into a three-dimensional installation, which ultimately offers a more comprehensive view of contemporary perspective on mural art.
While the University of Hartford maintains its belief towards young and bright individuals carrying forward a greater future, those who have contributed to what the institution is today should not be forgotten, too. In this exhibition, Tao LaBossiere (1968-2024), a former student and muralist of the Hartford Art School would be honored for his legacy, where his contributions towards public art throughout the years would be presented in slideshows in the Greater Hartford area.
If you’re looking to witness the impactful painting process, it is open to the public beginning March 3rd, and visitors are more than welcome to come by to track these artists’ progress. If you’re planning to join the exhibition, The Silpe Gallery is in the Hartford Art School’s Taub Hall at the University of Hartford. It is free and open to the public Monday–Thursday, noon–6 p.m., and Friday–Saturday, 1–5 p.m.
To attend artist’s talks and a reception sponsored by the University of Hartford’s Alumni Advisory Council, be sure to be there on Friday, April 4th from 4-6pm. If you are worried about how much it costs, it’s free!
Thanks to Hartford Art School Endowment, Inc. as well as the Alumni Advisory Council at the University of Hartford, they have made this event possible by funding the exhibition.
