On September 22nd, I had the privilege of sitting down for an interview with UHart President Lawrence P. Ward. As a follow-up on last year’s interview, our discussion mostly focused on the university’s growth over the past year and how President Ward’s vision for campus has been taking shape.
President Ward spoke a lot about the importance of fostering a welcoming campus community that responds to the feedback and needs of students. On the matter of collecting feedback, President Ward stated that, “The most important and the most compelling way is to be out among students.” Hearing from students going about their day-to-day routine is clearly important to President Ward, and it represents a broader vision for developing campus community.
On the transformation of Konover, President Ward said, “We just thought that we could be far more contemporary. We thought that we could change the entire look and feel inside and outside…and members of the campus community can come together.” The President’s plan to transform spaces on campus to be more conducive to gathering and community is a key aspect of his plans to lead the university into the future.
I look forward to seeing what these changes will bring to the atmosphere on campus. I trust that President Ward’s plans will have a positive impact on the University of Hartford far into the future.
