Meet the Informer: Nia Madden
March 17, 2021
Name: Nia Madden
Year: Junior
Position: Director of Communications
Major: Psychology (Major)/Communications (Minor)
This is my first year working with the Informer. I help my co-workers get their word out by publishing their articles. However, I see no harm in giving the pieces a second or third set of eyes before clicking the “publish” button. I also reach out to the writers of said articles to ensure I do my part in properly projecting their writing and intent with each topic. Working here actually allowed me to reconnect with my roots in writing and journalism.
When not doing work with the Informer, I spend time with my loved ones, writing music, working hard on academics, and hosting a podcast called The GEEK Zombie Podcast, which currently has six episodes (or more, depending on when this article is published). It is not associated with the Informer, but it is a fun hangout spot on the Internet for all horror and supernatural fiction fans. I am dedicated to pursuing a degree in Psychology and a minor in communications because both paths are more attuned with the creative, empathetic, and philosophical sides of me. My downtimes usually look like me blasting Motley Crue or Selena Gomez in my room or falling down a rabbit hole of informative youtube channels.
I was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania. However, I spent part of my childhood traveling with my father and stepmom. So, I also lived in Kentucky, North Carolina, Texas, Tennessee, and Maryland. In my teen years, I stayed in New York City, New York, with my mom. Now, I am temporarily settled in Maryland. If you asked me which state was my favorite, I’d tell you that I am torn between Texas and Tennessee because I fell in love with the Southern lifestyle and intend to go back after undergraduate school. I plan to continue my studies until I graduate with a Ph.D. in forensics and counseling psychology. On the other hand, I do see a promising future with music and podcasting.
