Late Night Class Scaries

Maddie Gill, Managing Editor

As a Cinema major, I am no stranger to late-night classes. However, over the years, it has become quite annoying. I would much rather have my film classes in the middle of the day than later at night for the simple fact that I am not totally engaged after a long day. Late classes may be the perfect opportunity for some to study, complete assignments, run errands, or nap during the day. But for me, I find myself twiddling my thumbs, waiting around for the start of class after exhausting all options to kill time.

In addition, I suppose the safety aspect is cause for concern. As a woman, walking back to my dorm alone at night from a 9:30 p.m. class is not something I look forward to doing multiple times each week. I’m not sure if this is a matter of installing more outdoor lighting for students walking back from late classes or if the hours themselves should be adjusted according to other students’ feedback. I, for one, would love to cut the hours back or even have the morning class start before 8 a.m. to make up for it.
