On Tuesday, October 3rd, the Hartford Hawks men’s soccer team won their first game of the season against Mount Saint Vincent by a final score of 2-1 at Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium. Nate Becher scored for the Hawks just past the eighth minute to give them an early lead in the contest. Being helped by Nicholas Castrovinci and Jayden Castro, it was Becher’s first of the year. Near the end of the first half, a goal by Donovan Speer for Mount Saint Vincent tied the match. But the Hawks shut out the Dolphins in the second half and Hartford only gave up one more point for the remainder of the contest. Sami Dridi and Trey Sadler provided assists for Alex Quinones’ second goal of the game in the 77th minute. At the sound of the buzzers, the Hawks had won, their first victory.
Overall, the Hawks controlled both the offensive end of the game and time of possession. Compared to Mount Saint Vincent’s 8 shots and 5 shots on goal, Hartford had 25 shots and 9 shots on goal. Additionally, the Hawks were able to take more corner kicks, which led to more scoring opportunities. Overall, Mount Saint Vincent had a difficult game as they had trouble keeping their composure. Along with other members of the Dolphins team receiving yellow cards, Trevor Pegg and Franklin Hernandez also received red cards and were ejected from the game. Following an 0-3-1 season debut, the men’s team at long last recorded a victory.
