The women’s soccer team of the University of Hartford defeated Western New England University and the University of Southern Maine on October 24th and 25th, respectively, to finish off their regular season. The team’s winning streak grew from two victories to a ten-game streak.
Western New England University was defeated 3-0 in the opening match. With her sixth goal of the year, Leah Barbieri opened the score just after the eighteenth minute. Imani Jenkins scored the other two goals in the 38th and 48th minutes. Out of the twenty-eight shots Hartford had, fifteen were on goal. Western New England could only put up three shots, which all came in the first half and Hartford goalie Sejal Johnson stopped the two shots on goal.
The Hawks triumphed 4-1 over Southern Maine the following day. Like she has done all season, Imani Jenkins was the star of the show, scoring a hat trick with two goals in the first half and the third in the first few minutes of the second. The game was effectively over in the eighty-eighth minute when Reese Sadler scored her first goal of the year.
The Hawks finish the season with a 14-2 record, a 7-1 record at home and away, and a 9-0 conference record after finishing on a 10-game winning run. With 66 points in the single season, Imani Jenkins set a new record for the institution. Christina Stone also set the school’s single-season assist record with 16. The team’s next step will be the ECAC Tournament on November 11th.
