UHart Baseball had a Saturday to remember, sweeping Trinity College in a two-game series. The back-to-back victories put the Hawks back above .500, improving their record to 3-2 on the year.
The first game was a low-scoring affair. Sophomore, Anthony Bubba pitched six innings for the Hawks and avoided sacrificing a single run. The Hawks managed to score twice in the 3rd inning, holding a 2-0 lead heading into the 7th. Trinity scored one run and attempted to mount a comeback, but the Hawks held on and won the game 2-1.
The second game of the series was a different story, with both teams scoring two runs in the first inning. The Hawks were able to put up four points in the second inning, scoring off a single and a triple with the bases loaded. Trinity retaliated in the top of the 3rd, scoring three runs and narrowing the deficit to 6-5. The Hawks scored three more runs in bottom of the 3rd, followed by one more for good measure in the 4th. The Hawks’ pitchers held Trinity scoreless for the final four innings, leading to a final score of 10-5.
Overall, the double-header was a great success for the Hawks, they swept an in-state rival and got themselves on a two-game winning streak. The Hawks have another double-header this Friday, March 7th, at Christopher Newport University. Hopefully, they can carry the momentum from these victories into their next series and extend their win streak.
