The Exodus Decoded: A Movie Review

In this documentary, “The Exodus Decoded” the filmmaker wanted to figure out and show if the Exodus was even a real story. The Exodus is a story that is told within the Bible, as a result, the filmmaker uses people from different disciplines in order to help piece together information. What this film is trying to do is connect the Hyksos to Semites. The film then goes on to explain the finding of the stella in 1947. The stella is dated from 1500 and mirrors the Biblical story of the Exodus. The filmmaker primarily uses this in order to go along with his theory.

Using the different people, from different disciplines, the filmmaker used their knowledge in order to describe the unimaginable events that took place, but in a way that made it actually believable with real life plausible causes. Lastly, the filmmaker also tried to find slave inscriptions that would help connect the Hyksos to the Semites.

The filmmaker used historical archaeology, as seen through the use of the stella, as well as anthropological archaeology. Anthropological archaeology was used when trying to decipher the language of the slaves in the caves. Literary analysis was also used in order to decipher the stella and the Bible. Without analyzing the two and figuring out that they are pretty similar, then the filmmakers theory would not have worked as well.

In terms of the Bible, I believe that the filmmaker is interested in the Bible. If they were not then this film would not be exploring the connection between the Bible and the stella. I would consider the filmmaker maximalist. I would consider the filmmaker a maximalist considering the fact the filmmaker seems to believe in the story of the Exodus and wants to figure out if that truly happened.
