Big Shot Concert

Jared Kozar, Staff Writer

On Saturday, October 26th, Mike Delguidice and his band Big Shot will be performing at College Street Music Hall in New Haven. For any rock and roll fans at the University of Hartford, this is an event you definitely don’t want to miss out on. He’s best known as a Billy Joel cover artist, and Mike is so good that Billy hired Mike on the spot to join his band. Joel even mentioned on SiriusXM radio that “That’s me…I know my voice…That’s a tape…but it was this guy…Mike DelGuidice.”

Delguidice is the only musician to be hired by the musician that he covers. But Delguidice isn’t just a cover artist. He’s also a master at the bass guitar, rhythm guitar, piano, and the drums, and he’s released two original CDs. His band Big Shot has a couple of former members of Billy Joel’s band, including Tommy Byrnes, who plays the guitar and Chuck Burgi, who’s on the drums. They’re known around the United States for playing various Billy Joel songs, both popular and deep-cut. But they’re not just limited to playing his songs. They also cover songs by rock and roll greats such as The Beatles, Elton John, Journey, and more. Delguidice is even a nominee for “Best Band/Tribute” in the East Coast Music Hall of Fame.

Mike Delguidice and Big Shot will be joined by Alex Shillo, a musician who specializes in rock and country music. Even though Alex is only 27, he’s a master at music. And you shouldn’t be deterred by his young age. His dad, Carl Shillo, is a musician for the band Silverado, and Alex grew up touring with him. Alex’s musical influences include famous musicians of the 1970s and 80s such as Bruce Springsteen and Michael Jackson. Tickets cost $25 if you want to have a front-row seat, and $35 if you want to sit in the back on the balcony. If you’re a fan of rock and roll, you don’t want to miss out on this incredible experience at College Street Music Hall.
