Retired Major League Baseball player David Ross, catcher best known for making his league debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers back in 2002, and closing with the Chicago Cubs from 2015-2016, is becoming the Cubs new manager.

Ross was last week announced as taking on the new position with his once former team, with the signing of his position being made officially on Monday, October 28th. Ross has signed a three-year contract with the team. He is the fourth manager to be hired under Cubs president Theo Epstein. In a statement made by Theo, he quotes, “We believe David truly has special gifts… Behind the scenes, David has been very proactive… For David, it was never enough for him or the teams he was on just to show up.” There has been some individuals and outlets criticizing Ross being named the coach, with some citing him as soft, a family man first, and not enough experience at being a boss of a team.

However, the Cubs organization has stood by their decision to hire their once former player and cite him as not being a pushover by no means necessary. Ross has played professional baseball for over 14 years, even in college, he played baseball with the University of Florida and Auburn University. In addition to playing for the LA Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs, he has also played at some point of his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates, San Diego Padres, Cincinnati Reds, the Boston Red Sox, and the Atlanta Braves. But Ross has also made a name for himself outside the MLB league, he’s also known in the entertainment world as being one of the worst dancers in Dancing With The Stars history.

Back in 2017, Ross made an appearance on season twenty-four, in-which he lasted all ten weeks of the competition with his low score performances. Beating fan favorites and other athletes competing on that season. Stars that included: Two-time Olympic skater Nancy Kerrigan, the greatest gymnast in the world, Olympic athlete Simone Biles, Fifth Harmony singer Normani, and bull-rider Bonner Bolton. Ross lost the competition to Retired NFL player, Rashad Jennings.

However, Ross made not be the best dancer, but was and still is considered one of the greatest players in the league, giving he is a two-time World Series Champion. Catch David Ross as the newest manager to the Chicago Cubs baseball team, as he will begin and make his debut during pre-season training, before The Cubs first MLB game in the late spring of 2020.
