Over this past weekend, the Hartford Hawks Men’s Basketball team took on NJIT in a two game set. Thomas Webley, a native of New Zealand, averaged 7.0 points and 4.5 rebounds in Hartford’s 1-1 week. This performance earned him the award of America East Rookie of the Week.

Coming out of Hartford’s 67-57 loss to NJIT on Saturday, Webley put up a career matching 10 points, while shooting 4 out of 5 from the field. He also recorded a career best eight rebounds in 24 minutes played. In Sunday’s 75-61 win over NJIT, Webley contributed four points from the field.

On the season, Webley is averaging 3.4 points and 2.8 rebounds in 14.3 minutes per game in 18 total appearances thus far. So far this season, three different Hawks have received awards from the America East. Senior Austin Williams (player of the week) and Webley (Rookie of the Week) each earned weekly recognition on December 7th, becoming the first Hartford tandem to sweep the league’s awards since 2005. Lastly, Graduate student Traci Carter took home his first career Player of the Week honor on January 4th.

The Hawks look to keep up the strong effort for the remainder of the season as they look to fight their way back to the conference championship, like they had done last season.
