Freshman Chandler Mitchell of the Hartford Softball team took home America East Rookie of the Week honors. This is the first time in her career that she has taken home the honors and rightfully so.

Mitchell batted .667 (4-for-6), while tallying five runs and four stolen bases over a three-game series at Maine this past weekend. In just two games against the Blackbears, Mitchell went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, adding three runs while swiping three bases in a 10-1 route on Saturday.

The Voorhees, N.J. native leads the Hawks with five stolen bases and seven runs scored. Batting .375 on the year, she ranks second place in the category. Mitchell is the second Hawk to earn Rookie of the Week honors, joining her classmate Zoe Truxon, who took home the accolade on March 29.

Mitchell and the Hawks are set for action on Saturday, April 24, as they head up to Albany to play the Great Danes in a three-game series. First pitch of Saturday’s doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
