Each spring, The English and Modern Language Department presents the Cardin Reading Series. The department brings some of the most prominent fiction writers, poets, essayists, and scholars from all over the country to speak on campus. Recent speakers include New York Times best-selling authors, Guggenheim Fellows, recipients of the National Book Awards, and the National Book Critics Circle Award. Events are free and open to students and faculty!

The Presidents’ College has partnered with the Cardin Reading Series this Spring 2022. The Cardin event will occur in Wilde Auditorium at 1 pm on Thursday, March 3. It will explore the Pulitzer-Prize-Winning play, Wolves, by Sarah DeLappe. The playwriter will be visiting the University’s creative writing courses that same day. The play highlights the experiences of high school girls through their weekly Saturday morning pregame soccer warm-ups. It features an all-female cast and explores the challenges that surround teenage self-discovery.

Sarah DeLappe is the Page One Playwright for The Playwrights Realm and has been a resident artist at the Sitka Fellows Program and SPACE on Ryder Farm. Her play, The Wolves, received the American Playwriting Foundation’s inaugural Relentless Award in 2015, won the 2017 Obie Award for Ensemble Work, and was a New York Times Critics Pick. The Wolves was a finalist for the 2017 Pulitzer Prize Drama.
