On Saturday, February 26, the Hartford Hawks Men’s Basketball team hit the hardwood at Chase Arena for a Senior Day matchup against the NJIT Highlanders. With their families in attendance, the seniors put on a show from all around the court. Senior David Shriver had a career night as he finished with 23-points, draining seven shots from beyond the arc, setting a new career-high. Shriver wasn’t the only one that had a hot hand during the game.

Senior DJ Mitchell dropped 17 points, with 15 of those points coming off three-point shots. This game was Mitchell’s first game back from injury. DJ Mitchell led the early scoring run for the Hawks as they jumped out to a 5-2 lead and never looked back from there. Seniors Austin Williams and Matt Hobbs also got in on the scoring helping the Hawks propel to a 43-25 lead over the Highlanders heading into halftime. Going into the half, Hartford was an impressive 57.7 percent from the floor, while Hartford also shot 60 percent from beyond the three-point line.

The lead at halftime became too much for the Highlanders, and they couldn’t catch up from there. Shriver kept draining threes giving Hartford a 61-40 lead with 14 minutes remaining in the game. The seniors weren’t the only ones with a rhythm from deep. Freshman Kurtis Henderson checked into the game late and knocked down three straights from beyond the arc, giving Hartford the win 83-62. After a very eventful Senior Day, the Hawks improve to an even 8-8 in America East play on the year.
