The Hartford Softball team was on the road this past weekend at Quinnipiac for a two-day round-robin. On day one, the Hawks lost game one to the Maine Black Bears and won game two against the Quinnipiac Bobcats. Day two was all Hartford, as they went home with a two-game sweep on the final day of the round-robin.
This season, Hartford has had a history of getting on the board early, and they did just that in game one against the Maine Black Bears. With one runner on base in the first inning, Junior Mara Sczecienski stepped up to the plate and blasted one over the right-field fence to go up 2-0. Maine didn’t let that lead last for long as they went up 4-2, heading into the sixth. The bats kept rolling when Chandler Mitchell launched her first career home run tying the game 4-4. Hartford went on to hand out the final blow in the final inning when Emma Curry hit the Hawk’s third two-run home run of the day, giving the Hawks the win, 6-4.
In-game two, Hartford also scored early as four runs crossed the plate against Quinnipiac’s starter Tori McGraw within the first three innings. It all started when starting pitcher Julianna Kocenski stepped up to the plate and drove home Olivia Wolk to go up 1-0 in the third. Not only was Kocenski on fire from behind the plate, but she also went on to record her second shutout of the season on the mound, propelling Hartford to a 4-0 win in game two over Quinnipiac.
The Hawks now move to 11-8 on the season and will head to Drexel for a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 30.
